Based on a recently published policy brief, The EU-funded OneSTOP is organising a webinar on 23 September at 15:00 (CET) on the concept of “plant-blindness” in One Health. It will discuss how the current plant data available is rarely integrated into global health, despite its important role for prevention, resilience, and policy.

The One Health approach sees human, environmental, and animal health as interconnected. However, it often overlooks plants' effect on health, despite their active role in ecosystems, food systems, and disease dynamics.

Plant-blindness continues to persist for a range of reasons, from poor integration of taxonomic data and lack of investment in taxonomy to the limited role of plant scientists in One Health decision-making. Adding to the challenge, stakeholders often struggle to turn plant biodiversity into practical, measurable indicators, and these interconnected problems are rarely addressed in policy. That’s why, the webinar will touch upon key topics like why plants are overlooked in One Heath and how they could be better integrated into the approach. The topics will be sustained with examples and recommendations for policy directions, further strengthening the connection between biodiversity and health.

You can register for the webinar via the Zoom form.
